The plea for peace launched by child victims and displaced persons of armed conflicts around Goma has captured the attention of the Congolese nation. In a strong symbolic gesture, a delegation of these young people was received by the President of the National Assembly, Vital Kamerhe, to deliver a poignant and urgent message: “Peace, nothing but peace”.
Accompanied by the Minister of Human Rights, Me Chantal Chambu Mwavita, and the Director General of the National Fund for Reparation of Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes against Peace and Security of Humanity, Patrick Fata, these children took a courageous step by submitting a memorandum to the President of the National Assembly.
This memorandum calls for the restoration of peace throughout the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in order to allow these children to regain their safety and dignity. It highlights the suffering endured by these young people, forced to live in precarious and unstable conditions because of the armed conflicts that are ravaging the region.
President Vital Kamerhe’s reaction was swift, expressing his full support for this plea for peace. Recognizing the crucial importance of this fight, he welcomed the initiative of the Minister of Human Rights and FONAREV, committing to work to find concrete solutions to the problem of children victims of armed conflicts.
