Promising stabilization of the monkeypox situation in the DRC

**Fatshimetrie: Fight against monkeypox in the DRC**

For several weeks, the Democratic Republic of Congo has been facing an epidemic of monkeypox, more commonly known as Monkeypox. However, recent developments indicate a stabilization of the situation, thus offering modest hope in the fight against this disease. The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, Roger Kamba, announced promising figures at a press conference: a significant decrease in reported cases, from 849 to 430 cases in the space of a week.

This encouraging news can only be the result of the combined efforts of the Congolese government, health organizations and medical personnel on the ground. Vaccination campaigns are progressing, with the first phase completed in the most affected provinces. The second phase, scheduled for next week, will be a crucial step in the fight against the disease.

The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) is at the heart of this battle, and its Director General, Dieudonné Mwamba Kazadi, has stressed the importance of the new vaccines to come. Discussions with the Japanese government are advanced to introduce additional vaccines, particularly for children. In addition, new doses of MVA vaccines are expected to strengthen the vaccination campaign during the second phase.

The toll of the epidemic nevertheless remains heavy, with more than 49,000 cases recorded, including nearly 11,000 confirmed cases and more than 1,000 deaths. The most affected provinces remain Équateur, South Kivu, Tshopo, Sankuru and Bas-Uélé, where medical teams are redoubling their efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

Faced with this situation, the Congolese population and international health organizations remain mobilized to stem the Monkeypox epidemic and protect vulnerable communities. The fight against this disease requires seamless coordination, sufficient resources and increased awareness among the population to prevent new outbreaks of contamination.

In this fight for public health, every small step forward is a victory, and the DRC can find in the stabilization of monkeypox cases a glimmer of hope for a healthier and safer future. The dedication of the actors involved, the solidarity of the affected populations and the determination of the authorities are all assets in this battle against a formidable disease. The resilience of the Congolese people in the face of adversity can be the key to overcoming this health crisis and emerging stronger from this ordeal.

Together, united in effort and compassion, we can defeat monkeypox and protect the health of all. Nothing is insurmountable when solidarity and determination are at the heart of our actions. Healing is possible, hope remains and confidence in a better future guides our steps towards a brighter and safer tomorrow.
