According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the perpetrator allegedly committed the crime between May and October at 44 Iyana Cele, Sabo area of Abeokuta. The thief allegedly stole no fewer than 282 live chickens valued at N2.115 million belonging to Mrs. Ademide Yusuf. In addition to the theft of poultry, other valuables totalling N70,500 were stolen during the same period.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, highlighted the modus operandi of the accused who was clearly operating according to a well-established pattern. Indeed, the culprit is said to have regularly visited the poultry farm to steal chickens before being eventually caught red-handed by the owner of the site. His unsuccessful attempt at theft that day put an end to his scheme and revealed the extent of his misdeed. He was apprehended in possession of two live chickens as well as other stolen items from the neighbouring compound.
