Fighting the crime wave in Lubumbashi: everyone’s business

In the bustling city of Lubumbashi, located in the Haut-Katanga province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, residents are facing a worrying crime wave that does not discriminate between the different municipalities in the region. No neighborhood is spared from these reprehensible acts that jeopardize the safety and tranquility of residents.

The rainy season, although conducive to the fertility of the land and the freshness of the atmosphere, has unfortunately given rise to an upsurge in criminal acts, sowing fear and uncertainty among the population already tested by the ongoing global pandemic. Residents find themselves facing an increasingly worrying situation, where simply returning home in the evening can become a vital security issue.

Local authorities, in collaboration with law enforcement, are called upon to intervene urgently to stem this scourge that threatens the tranquility of the city. Civil society associations are mobilizing to raise awareness in the community and urge the relevant authorities to take concrete measures to eradicate this devastating phenomenon.

The testimonies collected report alarming situations, with groups of criminals operating in an organized and violent manner, both inside and outside homes. Lives are lost, valuable goods are stolen, and women are victims of unspeakable violence. Terror is gradually setting in, creating a climate of mistrust and fear among residents already weakened by economic and social difficulties.

In a context where security should be an absolute priority, it is becoming imperative for the authorities to show firmness and determination to put an end to this spiral of violence. Citizen collaboration, awareness-raising and prevention are key elements in countering these criminal acts and restoring a sense of security within the community.

In these uncertain times, when solidarity and vigilance are essential, it is essential that everyone contributes to the preservation of common well-being by firmly condemning all forms of criminality and working together for a safer and more peaceful future for all the inhabitants of Lubumbashi.
