The crucial issues of eye tumors at the heart of the debates during the congress of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology


Fatshimetrie, November 8, 2024 – During the 21st Congress of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology held in Kinshasa, special attention was paid to eye tumors, a complex and crucial subject in the field of ophthalmology in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The representative of the Secretary General of Health opened the discussions by emphasizing the importance of the challenges posed by eye tumors in the country. He encouraged the ophthalmologists present to develop a clear agenda in order to mobilize the necessary resources to face these challenges.

The General Secretariat of Health expressed its support for the efforts of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology and encouraged participants to push their thinking further to find structured solutions to eye tumors. The Ministry of Health is counting on the expertise of the society to improve Congolese access to quality eye cancer care at affordable costs.

The President of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology highlighted the complexity of eye tumors, calling them delicate and difficult to treat conditions. These pathologies can lead to vision problems as well as serious consequences on the quality of life of patients.

For two days, the congress participants were invited to share their clinical experiences and knowledge on eye tumors, as well as on other topics related to ophthalmology. The focus was on the challenges of early diagnosis and effective management of these pathologies in a developing country context.

The Congolese Society of Ophthalmology organizes scientific days every year to deepen the understanding of health professionals on specific themes, thus strengthening their capacities by sharing experiences and know-how.

This event was therefore an opportunity for ophthalmology stakeholders in the Democratic Republic of Congo to address a crucial subject and to collaborate to improve the management of eye tumors and guarantee quality care for the population.
