The current situation in Mbandaka, Equateur Province, in the northwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is marked by a recent and significant decision taken by the provincial director of National Education. During a meeting with local school heads, it was decided to prohibit students from moving around the city in small groups, in order to prevent incidents and unrest that were occurring in the region.
This initiative, encouraged by the presence of the provincial Minister of the Interior and the mayor of the city, aims to establish a climate of security and responsibility within the educational community. School managers were also asked to increase vigilance by using roll call registers before students leave, and by ensuring that each is clearly identified by their uniform.
Proved Hervé Mungeta stressed the importance of collaboration between schools, local authorities and parents to deter delinquent behavior by students. He warned against fights between schools, locally nicknamed “Bomana”, which often have serious and unnecessary consequences.
This collective awareness and preventive measures aim to promote a healthy and safe school environment, where each student can flourish and learn in respect and peace. It is essential that everyone, from school heads to parents and authorities, actively contribute to building an educational and caring society.
In conclusion, the decision taken in Mbandaka shows the importance of prevention and education in responsibility among young people. By fostering a climate of trust and mutual respect, we can contribute to building a better future for all.
