Abdul Samad Rabiu: An Exceptional Act of Solidarity towards the Victims of the Floods in Maiduguri

In an extraordinary show of solidarity in the face of the recent flood devastation in Maiduguri, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Founder and Chairman of BUA Group and a leading figure in African business, has demonstrated unprecedented generosity by donating N2 billion to support the victims and relief efforts in Borno State.

The philanthropic gesture includes N1 billion in cash and an equivalent amount of essential food items to alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons and flood-affected communities. The initiative was revealed when a delegation was dispatched to Maiduguri to hand over the food and make the cash donation.

Speaking on the donation, Abdul Samad Rabiu, who is also the Chairman of BUA Group and Founder of ASR Africa, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Nigerians in times of crisis. He said: “The recent floods in Maiduguri have caused untold suffering to thousands of families. I consider it my responsibility, as well as that of my organization deeply rooted in the social fabric of Nigeria, to intervene quickly and meaningfully to provide relief to those affected. This donation of N2 billion to the victims of the recent floods in Borno is one way of helping the most vulnerable in times of crisis.”

The N1 billion worth of commodities include flour, pasta, sugar, rice and other essential items. These items will be distributed to the most affected areas to provide immediate relief. In addition, a cash donation of N1 billion has been made to the state government through the governor, to ensure that the aid reaches those in need as quickly as possible.

Through the BUA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of his company, and his own philanthropy, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), he has continually demonstrated his commitment to supporting communities in Nigeria and Africa at large, especially in times of crisis. This recent contribution is part of a broader effort to support relief and reconstruction efforts in flood-affected areas of the country.

Working with government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders, the BUA Foundation and ASR Africa will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the necessary resources are provided to help the people of Maiduguri recover and rebuild in the wake of this disaster.

Abdul Samad Rabiu added: “Our hearts go out to the families and individuals affected by this tragedy. As we scale up our support, we urge other companies and individuals of goodwill to join us in this effort to restore hope and rebuild lives.”

Abdul Samad Rabiu’s selfless gesture towards the flood victims in Maiduguri is a perfect illustration of the positive impact that private sector actors can have in times of crisis, highlighting the critical importance of social engagement and corporate responsibility in building a more inclusive and resilient society.
