The DRC-Africa Forum 2023 brought together key players in the mining sector and policy makers to discuss improving mining and industrial governance in Africa. The 18 recommendations formulated aim to encourage investments, strengthen technological capacities and improve governance in the sector. Among these recommendations, we find the adoption of a general law on industries, the search for skills and advanced technologies, the creation of models for pooling resources and the research and certification of deposits. It is crucial that these recommendations are implemented to develop the African economy in the mining and processing sector. With strong governance, Africa has the potential to become a major player in electric battery metals.

During the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the First Lady of the DRC, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, met with the United Nations Under-Secretary for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence, Pramila Patten. In this article, we are interested in the revisitation of the Chinese contract concluded 15 years ago by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the fight against corruption in the management of public finances. Under the leadership of Jules Alingete, the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) denounced the imbalance of the contract, where Chinese companies benefited from $10 billion, while the DRC only received $1 billion. President Tshisekedi pledged to establish a more equitable partnership with China and obtained an opening to review the contract during his recent trip to China.
