Introduction :

The Beni region, located in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has long been plagued by conflict and insecurity. However, recently, state and non-state actors came together during a major dialogue on security governance in Beni, and expressed their commitment to restoring peace in their living environment. This article highlights the actions and initiatives taken by these different groups to contribute to the pacification of the region.

Concrete actions to restore peace:

During the major dialogue, pressure groups, citizen movements and youth structures made a commitment to act in compliance with the laws of the Republic and to actively participate in the restoration of peace. Youth structures are particularly committed to raising awareness about electoral civic education and political tolerance, and to encouraging young people to disassociate themselves from armed groups.

For their part, women’s organizations have decided to raise awareness about UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which aims to promote the participation of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, as well as to carry out advocacy with of the central government to strengthen the number of magistrates. They also renounced separatist political discourse and committed to promoting lasting peace.

The political-administrative authorities of Beni, for their part, have made a commitment to establish discipline within the units of the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) and the police, in order to improve security governance in the region.
