According to Amnesty International, the situation in Sudan is currently marked by extreme violence. War crimes committed against the civilian population are numerous, with indiscriminate attacks, rapes, kidnappings and widespread destruction. Millions of Sudanese have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind them a situation of distress and suffering. The Rapid Support Forces paramilitaries and the Sudanese army are both responsible for these atrocities, with motives varying from inter-communal violence to ethnic motivation. The impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators of these crimes encourages their perpetuation. There is an urgent need for the international community to act to protect the population, deliver justice and provide essential humanitarian assistance.
