Fatshimetrie: A look at Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi’s visit to Mbuji-Mayi, in the Kasaï-Oriental province.

The visit of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi to Mbuji-Mayi has raised high expectations among the local population. Indeed, the inhabitants of this region are expressing their impatience for the realization of the promises made by the Head of State, particularly with regard to the revival of the Bakwanga Mining Company (MIBA) and the creation of jobs.

At the heart of the concerns of the inhabitants of Kasaï-Oriental is the issue of unemployment, particularly among the youth. President Tshisekedi, whose election was partly based on his commitment to create 6 million jobs, is expected to deliver. Expectations are high, especially since the revival of MIBA, a promise that has been mentioned many times, is slow to materialize. The inhabitants of Mbuji-Mayi also deplore the high cost of basic necessities, thus accentuating the economic difficulties they face on a daily basis.

Furthermore, some inhabitants stress the importance of finalizing the projects undertaken under the accelerated poverty reduction program. Infrastructures such as the school opposite the official University of Mbuji-Mayi and that of Kalenga Mudishi remain unfinished, leaving a feeling of incompleteness and waiting among the local population.

The improvement of road infrastructure is also a major expectation of the inhabitants of the region. The completion of the work on the Kananga-Kalamba-Mbuji road is essential, not only to connect the Republic of Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo, but also to promote the socio-economic development of the provincial capital of Kasaï-Oriental.

In short, President Tshisekedi’s visit to Mbuji-Mayi is of capital importance for the local population who hope for concrete and rapid actions to improve their living conditions. Electoral promises must be transformed into tangible achievements to meet the legitimate expectations of the citizens of Kasaï-Oriental.
