An unexpected decision shook the Congolese music world this week, as singer Heritier Wata was forced to cancel his participation in the “Matete Bomoko” Festival scheduled for January 2, 2025. This dramatic turn of events was orchestrated by the mayor of Matete for security reasons, fearing potential clashes between Heritier Wata’s fanatics and those of Fabregas, nicknamed “Spiritas” and “Villagers” respectively.
The news took fans of both artists by surprise, who had prepared to attend a high-flying show at this 4th edition of the Festival. While Fabregas is maintaining his performance to the delight of his admirers, Heritier Wata will have to resign himself to postponing his performance and focus on his VIP concert scheduled for December 31 at the Hilton Hotel in Kinshasa.
The two singers had been chosen to headline this special event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Commune of Matete. Fabregas, originally from the British UN, will have the honor of performing in front of his loved ones, while Heritier Wata will miss the opportunity to reunite with the Matetois, whom he had left after obtaining his state diploma in 2022.
Despite this unexpected cancellation, the organizers of the “Matete Bomoko” Festival are actively working to offer a quality alternative program, which will delight the public and honor the Commune of Matete.
