Fatshimetrie: A Commission to combat unsanitary conditions in Kinshasa
At the heart of the concerns of the inhabitants of Kinshasa are the persistent problems of unsanitary conditions, traffic jams and anarchic construction. Faced with this alarming situation, a special commission was set up at the National Assembly to support the city in its fight against these scourges.
Initiated following a motion by MP Matata Ponyo, this ad hoc commission’s mission is to provide concrete and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing Kinshasa. The objective is to make the Congolese capital cleaner, more fluid and better planned.
The report presented by the commission to the President of the National Assembly highlights the urgent need to act to clean up Kinshasa’s urban environment. Indeed, despite the efforts made by the previous authorities, unsanitary conditions remain a real headache for the city, affecting the quality of life of the inhabitants and the reputation of the capital.
To find effective solutions, it is essential to draw inspiration from good practices implemented in other Congolese cities. The example of Goma and the “Goma ville propre” operation shows that close collaboration between the municipality and civil society organizations can lead to tangible results. The public-private partnership has made it possible to significantly improve the cleanliness of the city and to raise awareness among the population of the importance of preserving their living environment.
Faced with these crucial issues, it is imperative that the authorities of Kinshasa act in a concerted and coordinated manner to implement effective actions. Civil society, private companies and citizens must also be involved in this process, because the fight against unsanitary conditions is everyone’s business.
In conclusion, the creation of this parliamentary commission is an essential step in the collective awareness of the need to transform Kinshasa into a clean, orderly and welcoming city. It is time to take action so that future generations can benefit from a healthy and sustainable environment in the capital of the DRC.
