The Congolese capital is the scene of a new economic dynamic that took effect this Tuesday, December 10. Indeed, a significant drop in the prices of basic necessities was noted on the Kinshasa market. This drop, the result of a compromise between the Government and major importers, was hailed by all as a breath of fresh air for Congolese households.

The Minister of National Economy, Daniel Mukoko Samba, personally went to the field to see this drop in prices first-hand. During his tour of the major import depots for basic necessities, he was able to observe a real willingness on the part of economic actors to implement the agreements reached.

The main products that experienced an immediate price drop were rice, powdered milk, sugar, corn flour, meat, chicken and horse mackerel. At major distributors such as Socimex, Sokin, Afrifood and Cowbell, the price drop is between 5% and 11%.

This gesture is not insignificant, because it directly impacts the purchasing power of consumers. With more affordable prices for basic necessities, Congolese households will be able to better meet their food needs while preserving their budget.

It is also important to emphasize that this price drop is not a temporary measure linked to the end-of-year holidays. It is expected to continue over time, thus offering a positive outlook for Congolese consumers.

Finally, economic operators who have agreed to play the game now benefit from certain tax breaks. These tax advantages, in effect until December 2025, aim to encourage price stability and guarantee a regular supply of basic necessities on the market.

In short, this drop in the prices of basic necessities in Kinshasa is a significant step forward for the Congolese economy. It demonstrates the willingness of the sector’s players to meet the needs of the population while supporting the country’s economic development.
