The National Library of Congo, an essential cultural and educational jewel, is unfortunately plunged into a deplorable state that requires urgent intervention. During the visit of the national deputy Léonard She Okitundu in the company of the French ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rémy Maréchaux, the poignant reality of this essential institution was highlighted.
In the heart of the Congolese capital, the National Library of Congo is in a worrying state of disrepair. The images of dilapidated furniture, poorly stored archives and obsolete installations testify to a negligence that compromises its crucial role in the preservation of national memory.
Faced with this sad observation, Léonard She Okitundu expressed his indignation at the absence of a national library that lives up to the cultural and educational heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This situation jeopardizes access to culture and education, an essential pillar of a country’s development.
In advocating for increased support for the modernization of the National Library of Congo, the MP highlighted the importance of this institution for the cultural and economic advancement of the country. He also recalled the DRC’s essential role within the International Organization of La Francophonie, as the first French-speaking country, and called on France to support this renovation project.
It is undeniable that the revitalization of the National Library of Congo is an urgent necessity to allow future generations to benefit from a place of knowledge and culture worthy of the name. The commitment of all stakeholders, both nationally and internationally, is essential to restore this institution to its place as an essential reference in the Congolese cultural landscape.
