Kano State Government Commits to Training Youth to Boost Agriculture, Local Economy

The Kano State Government recently announced a project supported by the French Embassy for 1,500 youths. The programme aims to strengthen the state’s economy through agricultural development initiatives.

According to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, the project will provide the participating youths with training and resources in various agricultural sectors. The aim is to equip them with the skills needed to succeed in agriculture, thereby contributing to food security and economic growth in the state.

In addition, the government has allocated N100 million for the accreditation of courses at the Audu Bako College of Agricultural Development (ABCOAD) in Danbatta. It was also mentioned that several projects that were abandoned under the previous administration of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso were nearing completion. These projects include key initiatives at the North-West University and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

The Commissioner highlighted the reconstruction of the burnt-out female boarding school at Aliko Dangote University and the completion of the humanities and sciences infrastructure at the North-West University as significant examples of the progress made. He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to improve infrastructure, develop human capital and introduce new accredited programmes in public institutions in the state.

These initiatives are part of the state of emergency declared by the administration in the education sector, demonstrating the continued commitment to progress and sustainable development of Kano State.

It is encouraging to note the priority given to youth and agriculture to drive economic growth and ensure food security in the region. The French Embassy’s support for this project also illustrates the importance of international cooperation to promote sustainable development and youth empowerment on the African continent.
