The Winners of the 21st Edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival

The 21st edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival ended with an emotional awards ceremony that left its mark. This flagship event was punctuated by various programs, such as the recent “Conversations” with renowned directors, tributes to Naïma Elmcherqui, David Cronenberg and Sean Penn, as well as the Atlas Workshops, promoting the development of films in progress during a week of workshops bringing together more than 300 professionals from the film industry.

The jury welcomed the selection of films in competition before announcing the winners. Roman Lutsky won the Best Actor award for his performance in Damian Kocur’s film “Under The Volcano”, which was also recognized for its direction.

The jury made an exception by awarding two Jury Prizes instead of one. The first went to Silvina Schnicer’s feature film, “The Cottage,” and the second to Mo Harawe, a Somali director who participated in the previous year’s Atlas Workshops, for his film “The village next to paradise.”

Two winners impressed the jury with their acting performances. Wafaa Aoun and Manar Shehab jointly received the Best Actress award for their portrayal of a mother and daughter in the film “Happy Holidays.”

“Happy Holidays,” directed by Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti, won the prestigious Golden Star award. This family drama tells the story of four individuals whose destinies intertwine.

The Marrakech International Film Festival once again provided an exceptional showcase for emerging and established talents in the world of cinema, celebrating the diversity of world cinematography and the creativity of directors. The awards presented at this 21st edition reflect the richness and quality of the works presented, offering a captivating and poignant vision of reality through the lens of filmmakers from around the world.
