Raising awareness of early detection of breast cancer in Kananga: a priority for women’s health

Raising awareness about early detection of breast cancer is a major priority in Kananga, Kasai-Central province. The Fondation Faveur santé universelle pour la femme et l’enfant (FASUFEC) recently mobilized to encourage women in the region to take care of their health by conducting regular screenings. This initiative aims to prevent cases of breast cancer detected at an advanced stage, where chances of recovery are often compromised.

Dr. Jeannot Kabwe, a gynecologist at FASUFEC, stressed the importance of early detection for the effective management of this disease. He noted that many patients do not consult early enough, due to lack of information on the warning signs of breast cancer. Indeed, lack of knowledge of the disease and fear of receiving a diagnosis are often factors that delay seeking medical care.

The high rate of breast cancer patients in the region highlights the need for increased awareness and easier access to screening services. According to Dr. Kabwe, women over 50 are the most affected, which highlights the importance of regular monitoring, even for women in good apparent health.

In addition, the tendency to self-medicate, particularly with traditional remedies, is a common practice among women in the region. This approach can be dangerous in the case of a serious pathology such as breast cancer, which requires specialized medical care.

FASUFEC is therefore committed to continuing its efforts to raise awareness and support women in the fight against breast cancer. By encouraging early detection, it hopes to reduce the number of cases diagnosed at an advanced stage and improve the chances of recovery for the patients concerned.

In conclusion, prevention and awareness remain essential levers in the fight against breast cancer in Kananga. It is crucial that women take charge of their health by undergoing regular screening examinations, in order to detect any abnormalities at an early stage and thus improve their prospects of recovery.
