Innovative traffic management in Kinshasa thanks to Fatshimetrie

Fatshimetrie is a traffic management strategy implemented in Kinshasa to combat traffic jams and facilitate travel for residents of the Congolese capital. This alternating traffic system, established by the Ministry of Transport and Communication in collaboration with the urban authorities of Kinshasa and other state services, aims to optimize traffic flow in a city where traffic jams are commonplace.

According to Valère Fumukani, technical director of the National Commission for Road Safety, this initiative has already produced significant results. Indeed, he claims that an improvement of around 80% has been observed in terms of traffic flow on certain sections subject to alternating traffic. Users report a significant reduction in travel time, which contributes to better urban mobility.

The Poids Louvières avenue, recently integrated into the alternating traffic system, is being added to the boulevards du 30 juin and Lumumba, as well as to the avenue Nguma, in an effort to extend this measure to several strategic roads in the Congolese capital. This diversification of the areas concerned reinforces the efficiency of traffic management and optimizes the travel of city dwellers.

Valère Fumukani emphasizes the importance of all users respecting the highway code to ensure the success of this initiative. He emphasizes that raising awareness among the population contributes to a better understanding of the need for alternating traffic and its benefits in terms of improving urban mobility.

In conclusion, the implementation of Fatshimetrie in Kinshasa represents a major step forward in road traffic management and the fight against traffic jams. This proactive measure demonstrates the Congolese authorities’ desire to seek innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of the capital’s residents.
