Mutambala’s Relocation: A Future Full of Challenges and Opportunities

Uvira, October 21, 2024 (Fatshimetrie) – The relocation of the Mutambala sector in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo has raised a series of challenges that are generating lively discussions among the local population. The customary chief of Mutambala, Jules Esombo, recently addressed the issues the community has been facing since this major change.

Once considered the economic heart of the region, the town of Baraka lost its status as the chief town to the village of Malinde. This transition has resulted in difficult adjustments, due to the lack of suitable infrastructure in Malinde. Jules Esombo highlighted Mutambala’s current dependence on local farmers, fishermen and traders to keep the local economy afloat.

In a speech filled with gratitude to the inhabitants of Mutambala, the customary chief called for patience and solidarity to overcome the current obstacles. “Unity is strength, and without your support, we cannot move forward towards a better future,” he said.

The decision to relocate the Mutambala sector was taken as part of an administrative division orchestrated by the provincial authorities in collaboration with the central government. This measure resulted in the separation of Mutambala from the town of Baraka, which was elevated to the rank of mayor, leaving behind the former capital of the sector.

This period of transition requires constant adaptation on the part of the inhabitants and local authorities. Despite the difficulties encountered, Jules Esombo remains optimistic about the future of Mutambala and calls for the cooperation of all to overcome the present obstacles.

Ultimately, the relocation of Mutambala represents a new chapter in the history of this community, marked by challenges but also by opportunities for growth and development. The unity and resilience of its inhabitants are the pillars on which the promising future of Mutambala rests.
