Urban illumination: Kisangani shines brightly thanks to the renovation of its public lighting

Fatshimetrie, October 20, 2024 – The bustling metropolis of Kisangani recently saw its streets light up with a new glow, thanks to the efforts of the teams of the National Electricity Company (Snel). This initiative is part of a global project aimed at modernizing the city’s public lighting and restoring its former glory.

From the beginning of the week, Snel teams mobilized to strengthen public lighting in several strategic arteries of Kisangani. One of the notable projects was Lumumba Boulevard, located in the heart of the city center, where workers are working tirelessly to illuminate the city.

On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the teams began the construction of public lighting pole bases on Kitima Avenue and their relocation to Lumumba Boulevard, a concrete sign of the progress of the work. Subsequently, efforts were intensified to improve public lighting on the TP road, representing significant progress for the city.

In addition to these works, Snel also launched awareness-raising actions towards its customers, with the distribution of formal notices to those benefiting from Medium Voltage (MV) and parastatal customers. The approach aims to guarantee responsible and equitable use of electricity, thus ensuring better distribution to the inhabitants of Kisangani.

Under the vigilant supervision of the technical assistant to the Director General, Mr. Georges Okanda, and the provincial director of Snel Tshopo, Mr. Alphonse Kitambala, the technicians tackled complex technical tasks, such as making 30kV boxes and finding electrical faults on critical circuits in the city. These concerted efforts demonstrate Snel’s commitment to improving the quality of service offered to the population of Kisangani.

In short, this initiative to renovate public lighting in Kisangani demonstrates a collective desire to modernize urban infrastructure, increase citizen safety and contribute to the city’s influence. Thanks to these sustained efforts, Kisangani is adorned with a new light, a symbol of a bright and promising future for its inhabitants.
