Launch of Human Capital Development Programme in Lafia, Nasarawa State: A crucial turning point towards a prosperous Nigeria

“The launch of the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Strategy and Human Capital Development Policy Framework in Lafia, the state capital, was a major event. Governor Shettima gave assurances of the need to reverse the growing trend of informality and low labour force participation due to high unemployment in Nigeria.

In a powerful speech, he stressed that the Human Capital Development (HCD) programme was aimed at averting a disadvantaged society under the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The government is committed to empowering Nigerians with globally competitive skills so that they can excel in the national and international job markets.

The need for this programme is undeniable as it is time to break with the patterns that have held us back as a nation. It is time to end the legacies of unplanned high fertility rates and alarming maternal and infant mortality rates.

The critical employment situation, the growing informal sector and low labour force participation must be reversed for the well-being of all. The governor stressed that the Nasarawa State strategic plan for the future is a reaffirmation of the shared belief that the solution lies in approaches tailored to the unique reality of each state.

He also expressed regret over the disappointing ranking of the ECOWAS region in the global Human Capital Development Index but stressed that this should be a call to action for all countries and sub-national entities to rise to the challenge.

Every child must have access to quality education and equitable healthcare. Furthermore, the country’s workforce must be equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century economy.

The Human Capital Development Agenda unveiled in 2018 aims to combat poverty, boost socio-economic growth and improve human capital across the country. The governor was thanked for his leadership in leading the National Economic Council and the National Human Capital Development Programme.

Senator Ahmed Wadada of Nasarawa West State highlighted the leadership role of the state in laying the foundation for Human Capital Development in Nigeria. He said that human beings are the most important creatures and must be equipped to succeed in their endeavours.

In conclusion, the launch of the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Strategy and the Human Capital Development Policy Framework is a critical step towards a better and more prosperous future for all Nigerians. It is imperative to continue investing in human capital to ensure sustainable development and the flourishing of the nation as a whole.”
