Strengthening the capacities of first responders to save lives: An initiative of excellence in Kikwit, DRC

Fatshimetrie, September 23, 2024 – A commendable initiative was recently set up in Kikwit, Kwilu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, under the leadership of Mayor Abe Ngiama Kathiaka, a training session for first aid trainers was launched, in partnership with the Red Cross, to raise awareness about blood donation and emergency response.

In a speech filled with pride, the mayor expressed his satisfaction at seeing his city selected to host this international and national Red Cross delegation. He believes that this training will help improve the care of victims of disasters and diseases not only in Kikwit but also in the Kwilu province and at the national level.

For his part, the national president of the Red Cross, Grégoire Mateso, stressed the importance of this event. According to him, the main objective of this training is to strengthen the skills of first aid trainers in emergency response, while raising awareness among the population about the importance of blood donation. He also emphasizes the need to obtain the support of donors to ensure the proper functioning of health facilities and enable the Red Cross to fulfill its mission while respecting its founding principles.

This training, which takes place over nine days, brings together first aid trainers from the provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo-Central, Kwango and Kwilu. It is supervised by three Belgian experts from the Red Cross, a guarantee of quality and professionalism in learning first aid techniques and raising awareness among the population.

In short, this event is a crucial step in promoting solidarity and mutual aid within Congolese society. It also demonstrates the importance of prevention and relief actions in the face of emergency situations, while promoting the generous gesture of blood donation. Let us hope that this training will bear fruit and contribute to saving lives in the near future.
