Fatshimetrie recently published an article warning individuals without legitimately assigned duties to desist from participating in the monitoring process of the government elections in Edo State. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, in charge of security for the election, Frank Mba, stressed the warning at a press conference in Benin this week. He specified that this included persons purporting to be media practitioners, election observers, members of vigilante groups and private security agencies. Only accredited personnel will be allowed to participate in the monitoring process of the elections.
The DIG warned that anyone found violating the directive would be held accountable and arrested if necessary. He assured voters in Saturday’s election of unmatched security during and after the vote, while warning troublemakers to stay away from the electoral exercise. The aim is to ensure peaceful and fair elections for all, with strict measures to deter any wrongdoing.
The police have been working closely with the army, air force, DSS, navy and other sister agencies to ensure violence-free elections. In addition, the use of sirens, political party ornaments, walking sticks resembling weapons, umbrellas and any object that can be easily transformed into a weapon is strictly prohibited.
Frank Mba also called on journalists to verify information circulating during and after the electoral exercise to avoid the spread of fake news that could incite unrest. He provided an operational number for the election, 07025000383, but warned against malicious calls. This vigilance and strict measures are a testament to the authorities’ determination to ensure safe and transparent elections.
In conclusion, as elections fast approach, the top priority remains the safety of citizens and the maintenance of public order. Collaboration between security forces and oversight agencies is essential to ensure a smooth electoral process. Voters must be able to express their choice with confidence, knowing that rigorous measures are in place to prevent disruption.
