Shortage of drinking water in Kinshasa: an urgent and crucial crisis

Fatshimetrie, September 1, 2024 – The shortage of drinking water affecting several neighborhoods in the city of Kinshasa is an urgent problem that requires immediate action. Residents of neighborhoods such as Kinsuka pêcheur, Manenga and Molende have been without drinking water for several days, jeopardizing their basic needs.

The lack of drinking water from Régideso has led to a series of difficulties for the residents of these neighborhoods. Indeed, water is essential for daily tasks such as hygiene, laundry and cooking. In addition, with the start of the school year scheduled for the next day, the lack of drinking water makes it even more difficult to manage families’ needs.

Residents are faced with increasingly worrying situations, such as the use of unsecured water sources, thus exposing the population to the risk of waterborne diseases. It is imperative that the Régideso authorities take measures to inform subscribers in the event of water cuts and to minimize the duration of these interruptions.

In another neighborhood, the head of the Kadima locality, Mr. Jérémie Nzaü, made an urgent appeal to the Régideso authorities regarding the recurring interruptions in water supply. He warned against the overuse of makeshift water sources, highlighting the risks of erosion and landslides in the area.

Faced with these challenges, a Regideso official explained the reasons behind the partial supply of water in some localities, particularly due to the overload of water production in existing plants. He stressed the need to build new infrastructure to adequately meet the population’s growing needs for drinking water.

In conclusion, the shortage of drinking water in Kinshasa is a deep problem that requires a strategic approach and long-term investments to ensure a stable water supply for all residents of the city. It is crucial that the authorities take immediate measures to resolve this crisis and ensure the well-being of the population.
