ECC Mediation in the DRC: A Ray of Hope for National Reconciliation

Fatshimetrie, September 1, 2024 (ACP) – In a context marked by political tensions and socio-economic challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) positions itself as an actor of mediation and dialogue necessary to promote national reconciliation. This offer of good offices from the ECC, relayed by Pastor Maurice Mondengo, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of communication, media and public relations, underlines the importance of bringing together the various political, civil society and religious actors to work together towards national cohesion and peace.

The ECC’s call for a discussion table under the palaver tree symbolizes the desire to promote constructive dialogue between the various Congolese protagonists, whether they are in power, in the opposition or from civil society. This gesture of mediation on the part of the Church reflects its willingness to act in favor of the well-being of the Congolese population, strongly impacted by decades of conflict and instability.

The President of the ECC, Rev. Dr. André-Gédéon Bokundoa, stressed the urgency of an inclusive and sincere dialogue between all political actors, calling on President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi to take concrete measures to engage the DRC in a process of reconciliation and reconstruction. By condemning the persistent war in the east of the country and calling for concrete actions to improve the living conditions of the population, the ECC positions itself as the voice of the national conscience, urging leaders to act in the best interests of the Congolese people.

Faced with the multiple challenges facing the DRC, recourse to the mediation of the Church of Christ in Congo appears as a valuable opportunity to foster a climate of trust and mutual understanding.
