Fatshimetrie, August 28, 2024 (FM).- Military relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Kingdom of Belgium were the subject of a high-level discussion this Wednesday in Kinshasa. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the DRC, Ms. Roxane Bildeling, shared Belgium’s commitments within the framework of its military partnership with the DRC, emphasizing the training of the Congolese armed forces.
During this meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Guy Kabombo Mwadiamvita, the issue of Belgium’s support in the reform of the Congolese armed forces was discussed. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed the Congolese government’s gratitude for this assistance, which aims to strengthen the capacities of the Congolese military, with a view to protecting the country’s borders and ensuring peace and security throughout the national territory.
In addition, a meeting took place between Guy Kabombo Mwadiamvita and the Canadian Ambassador to Kinshasa, Maryse Guilbault. The latter expressed concern about the recruitment of children into armed groups in eastern DRC. Canada expressed its support for the Congolese government to address this problem by working to protect and reintegrate children who are victims of forced recruitment.
These discussions demonstrate the importance of international partnerships in the field of defence and security, emphasizing the need for close cooperation between different nations to address the security and humanitarian challenges facing the DRC.
