Fatshimetrie, Democratic Republic of Congo, August 6, 2024 – A sensational news story recently shook the web, claiming that the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, is about to begin negotiations with the coordinator of the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), Corneille Nangaa. However, it is essential to clarify the fact that this information is completely unfounded and is more of a rumor and disinformation than a tangible reality.
At the origin of this “fake news”, we find a publication from the account “Chrono Presse RDC” which generated 21 comments, 9 shares and 259 likes. However, in-depth investigations have established that the Congolese head of state has expressed no intention of engaging in direct talks with the former president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Corneille Nangaa. Therefore, it is crucial to debunk this fake news.
It should be noted that the only real effort currently being made to ease tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda is the Luanda process. This ceasefire agreement, which came into force on August 4, 2024, according to a statement from the Angolan presidency, will be supervised by a specific mechanism already in place but which will be strengthened.
Furthermore, no public statement regarding the DRC has been noted on the communication channels of the American Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken. It is also essential to note that Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi is currently in Belgium for medical reasons and has not given any interviews to international media.
In the current context, it is essential to remember that peace between the DRC and Rwanda is based on the agreement in force supervised by Angola. The Congolese President has in no way addressed the subject mentioned in the incriminated publication.
It is therefore imperative to remain vigilant against the misleading information that is circulating and to favor official and verified sources. In these times when disinformation can spread at high speed, the veracity of facts and journalistic rigor remain essential pillars to guarantee good information.
In this whirlwind of information, untangling the true from the false becomes a crucial mission to preserve the credibility of the information and ensure an informed understanding of the events that shake our world. Let us remain attentive, critical and demanding towards the sources on which we base our opinion on subjects of capital importance. The truth deserves to be sought, defended and brought to light, so that clarity prevails over the obscurity of fake news that tries to cloud our discernment.
