Improving access to maternity care in Beni through free and comprehensive services

In a laudable effort to ensure access to quality maternity care, twenty-four health areas and five hospital centers have been designated to provide free services in the Beni region, located in the North Kivu province. This initiative, led by the Government, aims to offer complete monitoring of pregnancy, childbirth and the infant’s first days, until it reaches the age of one month.

The head doctor of the Beni health zone, Dr Kasereka Tosalalisana, underlined the importance of this care for pregnant women, highlighting the free maternity services. He also highlighted the importance of prenatal consultations, emphasizing that to benefit from this free service, it is essential that women respect the deadlines and periods recommended for these consultations.

This measure is part of President Félix Tshisekedi’s desire to guarantee quality health care for all citizens, particularly pregnant women and newborns. The chief medical officer encourages the population to turn to these health establishments to benefit from these free services, while emphasizing the importance of reporting any observations or remarks to local health authorities.

This initiative should help improve access to maternity care in the province of North Kivu, by providing comprehensive, quality care to pregnant women and infants. It is part of an approach to promoting maternal and child health, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality and guarantee a good start in life for each newborn.

By encouraging pregnant women to benefit from these free services, the Government is showing its commitment to maternal and child health, an essential priority for the social and economic development of the country. It is now up to the population of Beni and the surrounding area to seize this opportunity and actively participate in promoting the health of all.
