Significant improvement in electricity service in Kinshasa: The efforts of civil society praised

Fatshimetrie, June 23, 2024 – The temporary improvement in electrical energy service in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is experiencing positive momentum welcomed by a branch of civil society. Indeed, the Coalition of civil society organizations for monitoring reforms and public action (Corap) expressed its satisfaction with the efforts made by the National Electricity Company (Snel) to meet the needs of its customers in terms of quality of service.

According to the executive secretary of Corap, Mr. Emmanuel Musuyu, the latter has noticed a significant improvement in the management of electricity service in Kinshasa, following regular monitoring carried out in the electricity sector. The partnership established between Corap and Snel has made it possible to intensify communication between citizens and the company’s general management, thus promoting a better understanding of local needs.

Despite the progress noted, Corap encourages Snel to continue its efforts to strengthen its network and reduce energy losses. The installation of meters must also be intensified in order to guarantee full compliance with the regulations in force. Furthermore, the importance of effective communication with customers to inform them about load shedding programs and other practical aspects is underlined.

Civil society has called on the Suminwa government to pay special attention to investments in the power sector, highlighting its crucial role in implementing the country’s development projects. This cooperation between public authorities and civil society actors is essential to ensure continued improvement in electrical energy service in Kinshasa.

In conclusion, citizen involvement and collaboration between different stakeholders are key elements to guarantee reliable access to electricity and contribute to the sustainable development of the Congolese capital. The vigilance and commitment of all are necessary to maintain this positive dynamic and meet the growing energy needs of the population.
