Fatshimetrie is a news media that aims to be the spokesperson for the events that are shaking our world. Today we are witnessing a new tragedy that has befallen the villages of Peteuri and Upende, in the troubled region of North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The inhabitants of these localities experienced horror this Saturday, May 25, when rebels from the ADF group launched a deadly attack, sowing terror and destruction in their wake. At least ten civilians lost their lives, homes were burned, businesses looted, and valuable possessions taken.
The stories of survivors are harrowing: people killed in their fields, entire families broken apart, villagers forced to flee to escape the violence. These barbaric acts are a reminder of the inhuman cruelty of the armed groups that are rampant in the region, sowing chaos and desolation among already vulnerable populations.
Faced with this tragedy, it is imperative that the competent authorities take rapid and effective measures to protect civilians and put an end to this senseless violence. It is time to put an end to the impunity of armed groups and guarantee security and stability in this region scarred by decades of conflict.
We call for a firm and coordinated response from the security forces to track down these criminals, bring them to justice and restore peace in these martyred villages. Civilians have the right to live in safety and peace, and it is our duty to protect them and defend their fundamental rights.
In these dark times, our thoughts go to the victims of this tragedy, to their bereaved families, and to all those who suffer the consequences of armed violence. May they find the strength and comfort to overcome this ordeal, and may we all work together for a future of peace and prosperity for this battered region of North Kivu.
