As part of a recent operation by Nigeria’s police anti-kidnapping unit, disturbing information has come to light regarding the activities of a dangerous gang operating in the area. According to statements by the police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, relayed at a press conference in Port Harcourt, an individual named Louise Brutolu was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and assault of the young Ogechi, aged 28, in Elele, Ikwerre LGA, on July 1, 2023.

The investigations revealed particularly worrying modus operandi. It is understood that the suspect, Louise Brutolu, used telephone conversations to lure his victims to the Pacific Suite Hotel in Abuloma, Rivers. Once there, the victims were drugged, rendered unconscious, then robbed of their belongings. In Ogechi’s case, the attacker took his iPhone, 28,000 naira and his ATM card.

The police, alerted by this incident, quickly reacted by launching an operation aimed at capturing Brutolu. Upon his arrest, officers seized the substances the suspect used to incapacitate his victims, as well as an arsenal of stolen property, including 21 cell phones, three women’s purses and receipt books.

At the same time, a certain Jemifor Timi, aged 28, was arrested for his involvement in several cases of rape of young women in the state. This alleged predator targeted his victims by contacting them through social networks such as Instagram, Tinder and Badoo. After luring them to hotel rooms, he would offer them drugged drinks, then carry out the act.

It is alarming to note that these individuals had already faced similar accusations in the past, in 2021 for Brutolu and on several occasions for Timi. This recidivism highlights the need to strengthen measures to prevent and combat these despicable crimes.

In conclusion, it is crucial that residents, especially young women, remain vigilant against these predators who exploit popular messaging platforms to lure their victims. The police, through its anti-kidnapping unit, continue their efforts to ensure the safety and protection of the population against such heinous acts.
