A new chapter for local democracy in Oyo: Local election results revealed by OYSIEC

On Monday morning, a pivotal event unfolded at the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) headquarters in Ibadan. The Commission’s Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, conducted a press conference to reveal the outcomes of the recent local elections. Olagunju emphasized the success of the elections, crediting Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering support and the dedication of various stakeholders in the state for this achievement.

While praising the stakeholders’ efforts, Olagunju acknowledged areas in the elections that necessitated improvement. He assured that these aspects would be thoroughly scrutinized and included in the official report to be presented to the state government.

The OYSIEC president commended all parties involved in the electoral process and particularly applauded the Inter-Party Consultative Council (IPAC) for its role in ensuring free and fair elections. He also expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies for their steadfast support throughout the electoral process.

Despite the acknowledgments and appreciations, Olagunju recognized the need for improvement and guaranteed that these flaws would be addressed in the final report submitted to the government. This commitment underscores the Commission’s dedication to upholding the integrity and transparency of the electoral processes.

Governor Seyi Makinde, in a previous statement, lauded the smooth conduct of the elections, emphasizing their peaceful nature. He stressed the significance of citizen engagement in local governance and encouraged residents to report any irregularities to the relevant authorities.

Furthermore, the re-elected Mayor of Ibadan North East City, Ibrahim Akintayo, pledged enhanced municipal management and vowed to serve the community diligently.

The ceremony announcing the electoral results signifies not only the candidates’ victories but also heralds a new era of transparency and accountability in public affairs management.
