Reorganization of District Chiefs in Sokoto: A New Era Begins

The recent shake-up in the Sokoto government has caused quite a buzz in the community. Governor Abubakar Bawa announced the dismissal of several District Chiefs, including those from Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, Illela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa. The decision was made due to discontent among their subjects regarding the questionable circumstances of their appointments by former Governor Aminu Tambuwal towards the end of his term.

Those who lost their titles include Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongono, Sarkin Kudun Yar Tsakkuwa, Sarkin Tambuwal, and Sarkin Yamman Torankavwa, whose integrity and legitimacy were in doubt. Investigations are also underway concerning the District Heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi for suspected irregularities.

To ensure stability and continuity, the Sokoto government has decided to retain seven other District Chiefs who have demonstrated a commitment to their communities. Among them are Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar III Churoman Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Maccido Barayar Zaki, Abubakar Salame Sarkin Arewan Salame, and Aminu Bello Sarkin Yamman Balle.

As part of the reorganization, Abdulkadir Mujeli, who was appointed Magajin Garin Sokoto, has been reverted to his previous role as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi in an effort to restore harmony within the traditional administration.

This restructuring underscores the significance of ensuring the legitimacy and acceptance of local leaders among their people, as trust and support from the community are essential for effective governance.
