“Urgent appeal for aid in the DRC: an ongoing humanitarian disaster requiring immediate action”

Recent news in the Democratic Republic of Congo highlights a critical humanitarian situation, with more than 7.1 million people displaced within the country. The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DRC, Bintou Keita, has launched an urgent appeal for help from donors and the international community to support populations in distress.

The M23 crisis in North Kivu and the persistent armed violence in Ituri and South Kivu exacerbate the already precarious situation of the inhabitants. During his speech before the UN Security Council, Bintou Keita warned of the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the country.

It is imperative that the international community responds quickly to address this crisis and provide vital humanitarian assistance to affected populations. The situation in the DRC requires concerted and urgent action to prevent an escalation of the disaster.
