An agreement was finally reached between the administrative staff of the South Kivu Provincial Assembly and local authorities, thus ending a 21-day strike. The main objective of this social movement was to demand the payment of 32 months of overdue salary. Following discussions with provincial deputies and the interim governor, a compromise was reached.
In a joint press release, the union delegation of the Provincial Assembly announced the temporary suspension of the strike in order to allow the holding of the inaugural plenary and the installation of a temporary age office. This decision follows assurances given by the provincial government represented by Governor ai Marc Malago Kashekere.
Furthermore, the director of administration of the Provincial Assembly invited the newly elected deputies to present themselves for identification and registration at the administrative secretariat. These agents, who had transformed the plenary room into a dormitory during the strike, have now broken camp.
This lifting of strike occurs following the co-optation of 4 traditional chiefs to complete the workforce of 48 provincial deputies from the province of South Kivu. This positive turning point underlines a desire for dialogue and conflict resolution for the good of all.
