“Economic crisis in Nigeria: Buhari administration policies singled out, but collective effort needed to overcome the crisis”

The current economic crisis in Nigeria is a direct consequence of the policies adopted by the Buhari administration, says the former governor of Edo State. These statements were made during an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

According to him, he had expressed his dissatisfaction with these reckless policies which had the effect of dehumanizing a population already suffering, even before the departure of the previous president. He declares that he has dissociated himself from these policies and is delighted not to have been the only one to do so. Other governors are also said to have taken legal action to denounce some of these measures. Today we must face the long-term consequences of these policies.

However, the former governor clarified that although the Buhari administration was an APC party government, President Bola Tinubu should not be held responsible for the decisions of his predecessor. He points out that Tinubu has never held a ministerial position or advisor in this government, and has never benefited from contracts with it. He cannot therefore be held responsible for the errors made by this government.

If we are to be fair to President Bola Tinubu, he says, he is not to blame for the current difficulties. For eight years we lived a sham lifestyle, accumulating huge debts both domestic and foreign. The Central Bank of Nigeria owes over N30 trillion, which has resulted in debt servicing exceeding 100%.

It is important to note that this economic crisis cannot be blamed on a single person or political party. It results from various factors and decisions taken at different levels of government. It is therefore essential to exercise discernment and analyze the situation objectively.

It is necessary that current leaders do everything possible to remedy this economic crisis and alleviate the suffering of the population. Steps must be taken to stimulate the economy, encourage investment and create employment opportunities. Only a collective effort and a constructive approach can overcome this crisis and rebuild a stable and prosperous economy.

It is also essential to learn lessons from the past and avoid repeating the mistakes that led to this economic crisis. Policies must focus on the well-being of the population and the creation of an environment conducive to economic growth and sustainable development.

In conclusion, the current economic crisis in Nigeria is the result of reckless policies adopted by the previous administration. However, it is important not to blame a single person or political party, but rather to work collectively to overcome this crisis and rebuild a strong economy.
