“The Sacred Union triumphs in the legislative elections in DR Congo and opens a new political era”

The Sacred Union wins a landslide victory in the legislative elections in DR Congo

The provisional results of the national legislative elections in DR Congo were published yesterday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), revealing a landslide victory for the Sacred Union coalition, which supported the candidacy of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi. With more than 400 deputies, the Sacred Union obtained a large majority in the National Assembly.

This victory gives President Tshisekedi considerable room for maneuver to govern the country in his own way. According to Professor Bob Kabamba, professor of political science at the University of Liège, this should not pose a problem for the formation of the government, but rather open a battle of men within the Sacred Union for the allocation of different positions.

The results show that the UDPS/Tshisekedi comes first with 69 deputies, followed by the UNC with 36 elected officials, the AFDC with 35 deputies, the AB with 26 elected officials, the A/B50, the AAAP and the 2A/TDC with 21 deputies each, and the MLC with 19 deputies. All these parties and groups are part of the Sacred Union, which strengthens their political weight within the National Assembly.

This electoral victory marks a new stage in the political evolution of the DR Congo. It gives President Tshisekedi the opportunity to implement his projects and govern the country according to his vision. However, it also comes with increased responsibility, as expectations are high and challenges many.

In a country that faces significant economic, social and security challenges, the Sacred Union coalition will have to work to resolve these problems effectively. The population’s expectations are high and it will be important for the government to provide tangible results in order to strengthen public confidence.

The Sacred Union must also ensure that it maintains unity within the coalition and promotes transparency and good governance. Significant reforms will be necessary to consolidate democracy and strengthen the rule of law in DR Congo.

In conclusion, the overwhelming victory of the Sacred Union coalition in the legislative elections in DR Congo gives President Tshisekedi a unique opportunity to govern the country in his own way. However, this also entails great responsibility and the need to address the challenges facing the country. It will be crucial to provide concrete results and promote transparency and good governance to meet the expectations of the population and consolidate democracy in DR Congo.
