“The controversies surrounding the construction of the Kananga-Mbuji Mayi road in the DRC: the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering under fire from criticism”

The construction of the “Kananga-Mbuji Mayi” road has sparked heated controversy. While the General Inspectorate of Finance of the DRC demands explanations from the Egyptian group SAMCRETE Engenering on the use of more than 24 million USD for this project, the CEO of the company firmly rejects the accusations and intends to seize the competent authorities to repair the tarnished image of his company.

It is important to remember that the populations of Mbuji-Mayi and Kananga have expressed their concern about the deplorable state of National Road number 1 in the Kasai Central province. It is in this context that the Egyptian group Samcrete has committed to building a 188 km road linking Kananga to Mbuji-Mayi, with a lifespan of 50 years. The cost of the contract was estimated at 302 million USD, with a first deposit of 27 million USD.

However, the work is currently blocked due to the ban on SOFIBANQUE from paying the deposit. The General Inspectorate of Finance is at the origin of this decision, but the CEO of SAMCRETE Engenering affirms that the IGF did not have all the elements of the file to make its judgment and speaks of “populism” on the part of the inspection.

This case is therefore being closely monitored, and it remains to be seen what the outcome of this case will be. The construction of the “Kananga-Mbuji Mayi” road is a major issue for the population and for the development of the region. It is essential that all stakeholders work together transparently and effectively to successfully complete this crucial project.

In conclusion, this case highlights the challenges and complications facing infrastructure projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is imperative that transparency and accountability are at the heart of these projects to ensure their success and fully benefit the population.
