“National Road 17 in Congo in danger: the resumption of rehabilitation work is urgent for the development of the Maï-Ndombe region”

The National Road 17 (RN17) linking Bandundu town to the Mongata village is currently going through a difficult period. Indeed, its state of disrepair is worrying, especially during the rainy season. This is what deplores the provincial director of the Maï-Ndombe Roads Office, Joyce Nsimba.

Work to rehabilitate this road, launched in July 2022, was unfortunately interrupted last March due to insecurity due to the activism of the Mobondo militia in Kwamouth, in the province of Maï-Ndombe. This situation also led to the cessation of feasibility studies for the road asphalting project by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Joyce Nsimba therefore calls for a complete stabilization of the security situation in the region in order to allow the resumption of work carried out by the Chinese company SCI. He is in talks with the latter in order to find a solution to restart the work as quickly as possible.

The deplorable state of the RN17 represents a major concern for the Roads Office and for the inhabitants of the region. The poor quality of the road makes travel difficult and compromises the economic development of the Maï-Ndombe region.

In a message addressed to the central government, Joyce Nsimba underlines the urgency of creating the necessary security conditions in the Kwamouth area in order to allow the imminent resumption of rehabilitation work on the RN17.

It is therefore crucial that the authorities take measures to guarantee the safety of workers on the site and to ensure the completion of this important work for the development of the region.

In conclusion, the dilapidated state of National Road 17 between Bandundu town and Mongata village is a major concern during this rainy period. The resumption of rehabilitation work is essential to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Maï-Ndombe region and promote its economic development. It is now imperative that the security conditions are met to allow this work to resume as quickly as possible.
