Title: Maximizing customs revenue: Discover the new Kasumbalesa customs building inaugurated by Félix Tshisekedi
Introduction :
In his fight against customs fraud and smuggling, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, recently inaugurated an impressive customs building in Kasumbalesa. This new infrastructure, the result of a partnership between the General Directorate of Customs and Excise (DGDA) and the Congolese company TRAFIGO SARL, demonstrates the government’s determination to maximize state revenue under optimal conditions.
A modern building to combat customs fraud:
The new Kasumbalesa customs building features 2,600 square meters of modern space, housing all the services required at the customs station. Equipped with cutting-edge operational equipment, this building marks a significant step forward in the fight against customs fraud and facilitates the processing of customs files more efficiently.
Complete infrastructures to facilitate cross-border trade:
In addition to the customs building, other infrastructure was built as part of this project. An 8-kilometer reinforced concrete bypass road was built to streamline road traffic. Bonded warehouses, two import-export car parks capable of accommodating 1,500 trucks and accommodation for customs officers have also been developed. These comprehensive infrastructures aim to facilitate cross-border trade and stimulate the development of the region.
An effective partnership to maximize customs revenue:
The partnership between the DGDA and TRAFIGO SARL has enabled the establishment of a reliable and secure system for maximizing customs revenue at the Kasumbalesa post. Thanks to this system, based on efficient tax and royalty traceability software, the DGDA noted an average increase of 700 to 1,000% in its revenue from the first year of implementation. This innovative approach has demonstrated its effectiveness in the fight against the leakage of customs revenues.
A female entrepreneurial success story:
The project to modernize the Kasumbalesa border post was led by Magalie Kayitesi Raway, director of TRAFIGO SARL. This Congolese entrepreneur was able to successfully meet the challenge, benefiting from the support of local banks for infrastructure financing. This success demonstrates President Tshisekedi’s desire to promote Congolese female entrepreneurship and develop public-private partnerships to promote the country’s economic development.
Conclusion :
The inauguration of the new Kasumbalesa customs building marks a significant step forward in the fight against customs fraud and the maximization of state revenue in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This project, carried out thanks to a fruitful partnership between the DGDA and TRAFIGO SARL, highlights the importance of collaboration between the public and private sector to stimulate economic development. Thanks to these modern infrastructures, the Kasumbalesa customs post is now better equipped to facilitate cross-border trade and strengthen transparency in customs operations.
