“Jean-Pierre Bemba launches the “United for Peace and Security” project to support the reform of the Congolese armed forces and guarantee the protection of civilians in the DRC”

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Jean-Pierre Bemba, recently launched the “United for Peace and Security” project during a ceremony in Kinshasa. This project, funded by the European Union to the tune of 29.6 million euros, aims to support the reform of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).

The launch of this project comes following the aggression of the DRC by Rwanda under the cover of the M23, as part of a plan aimed at destabilizing and sabotaging the stabilization, peace and development efforts of the DRC. Jean-Pierre Bemba expresses his confidence in the new capabilities of the Congolese armed forces and affirms that the Congolese people will emerge victorious from this struggle.

The United for Peace and Security project focuses on several key areas in the DRC, including Kinshasa, Kananga, Ituri and North Kivu. The actions of this project aim to support the implementation of the Armed Forces Reform Plan (PRA), to modernize the Defense administration, to strengthen accountability and the link between the armed forces and the population, as well as to support and protect civilian populations, particularly women and vulnerable groups, in conflict zones.

This project, implemented by Expertise France and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), will contribute to strengthening governance and the rule of law in the DRC, to the fight against impunity and corruption, and to promotion of just and lasting peace.

In conclusion, the “United for Peace and Security” project launched by Jean-Pierre Bemba aims to support the reform of the Congolese armed forces and promote peace in the DRC. This program, funded by the European Union, marks an important step in efforts to stabilize the country and protect the civilian population.
