“CAN 2025 and 2027: Morocco chosen to shine, Senegal disappointed and East Africa facing the organizational challenge”

Article – Today’s news: What should we remember from the attributions of CAN 2025 and 2027?

Morocco undoubtedly chosen for CAN 2025
Morocco seems to have been the obvious choice for the organization of the African Cup of Nations in 2025. The country, prepared on all fronts, both in terms of infrastructure and logistics, has also demonstrated solid performances at the level soccer. With its fourth place at the last World Cup and its historic women’s qualification in the round of 16, Morocco has established itself as a true showcase of African football. This allocation could also support the Moroccan candidacy for the 2030 World Cup, as highlighted by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Senegal disappointed by the choice of 2027
Senegal, the reigning African champion, hoped to host the CAN in 2027, 35 years after its last organization in 1992. Despite a solid file and a laudatory presentation, the country was excluded for reasons judged to be insufficient preparation. Indeed, Senegal currently only has one approved stadium, requiring renovations and expansions to be able to host the competition. In addition, the uncertainty surrounding the presidential elections next February may also have weakened the Senegalese candidacy.

East Africa’s challenge for 2027
The trio of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania won the hosting of CAN 2027, but now face the challenge of preparing in less than four years. For the moment, only the Benjamin-Mkapa stadium in Tanzania meets CAF standards. The other two countries will therefore have to build new stadiums or renovate existing ones to be ready to host the competition. After almost 50 years since the last CAN in East Africa, it is time to make this dream a reality and develop the infrastructure necessary for the success of the event.

In conclusion, the attributions of the 2025 and 2027 editions of the African Cup of Nations were marked by logical choices, but also some disappointments. Morocco stands out as an obvious choice for 2025, thanks to its preparation and sporting performances. Senegal, for its part, will have to review its preparation to hope to host the competition in the future. Finally, East Africa, faced with a major challenge to be ready in 2027, will have to invest in the development of the infrastructure necessary to hold the event.
