News DRC: Politics invites itself in the straight line towards the presidential election
The presidential election of December 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo is looming on the horizon, and politics already looms large. Thus, Martin Fayulu Madidi, unsuccessful candidate in the last presidential election, announced on June 19 that he would not submit his candidacy for the presidential election, nor that of his national deputies, on the grounds that the electoral files had not been audited. .
For his part, Moïse Katumbi Chapwe announced that his party, Together for the Republic, would present lists at all levels. This political formation wishes to fight until the end so that the election is truly democratic and inclusive. To do this, Moïse Katumbi Chapwe believes that it is essential not to leave the electoral files “fabricated from scratch” not to be audited.
With these contradictory statements, the activities of the opposition fringe led by these two personalities risk being disrupted. Martin Fayulu Madidi’s remarks could be followed by other members of the opposition, while for Moïse Katumbi Chapwe, it remains a question of fighting to the end for a truly democratic election.
Faced with this complex situation, all eyes are now on Delly Sessanga and Matata Ponyo, two other key members of the opposition, whose position could prove crucial in the months to come.
