The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is still causing a lot of ink to flow at the beginning of June 2023. Last Friday, the former President of the Republic, Joseph Kabila Kabange, addressed a small group of executives from his political party who remain loyal to him. According to reports, he promised them to speak to the Congolese nation in the coming days.
However, for Moïse Moni Della, eyewitnesses and earwitnesses to some of the crimes perpetrated during Kabila’s reign, he must above all ask for forgiveness from the Congolese people. Indeed, Kabila is responsible for the current situation in the country. As the designer of the “African compromise”, he allowed the mystical and preposterous transfer of power to Felix Tshisekedi. A transfer of power which was tainted by the tampering and tweaking of the ballot boxes, allowing Kabila to retain some influence on Congolese politics.
But the Congolese are not fooled and do not have a short memory. They will not forget the numerous violations of human rights, the political and economic crimes perpetrated under his governance. Moreover, history will not prove him right and will make him pay for his actions.
Furthermore, the current political situation under the reign of Felix Tshisekedi is far from ideal. The nascent dictatorship that is being established threatens human rights and democracy. In this context, the arrival of Joseph Kabila on the political scene does not seem to be good news. The judgment of history would risk catching up with him and tarnishing his image even more.
The Democratic Republic of Congo must look to the future and face the challenges of its time. Young Congolese are mobilized and wish to get actively involved in the politics of their country, by trying to create their own business or by getting involved in politics. Let’s hope that the leaders of tomorrow will be up to it and will be able to meet the expectations of the Congolese.
