“The Minister of Higher and University Education calls for the re-election of Félix Tshisekedi: What is his real intention?”

The Minister of Higher and University Education, Muhindo Nzangi, declared during a press conference in Kisangani, in the province of Tshopo, his determination to guarantee a second mandate to Felix Tshisekedi, current president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in the next elections. Nzangi is a member of a political group called “Agissons et Bâtissons” (AB) which shares this same vision.

The minister also pointed out that their political grouping is striving to be the biggest after the elections. He reassured his audience that the elections will take place on time and there will be no overtime. “With the campaign that will be waged for him, I am 100% sure that he will win the elections, and his second term will be that of reconstruction and the awakening of the giant”, affirmed Muhindo Nzangi.

However, these statements have raised questions about their motivation. Indeed, Muhindo Nzangi was the former collaborator of Moïse Katumbi, a former governor of Katanga province who strongly opposes Joseph Kabila and who supported Mr. Tshisekedi in the 2018 presidential elections.

It is therefore possible that Muhindo Nzangi is in favor of a re-election of Tshisekedi to continue to benefit from his advantages within the Sama government. However, Congolese voters should be aware of the motives of politicians who are positioning themselves for the re-election of the president before making their decision in the upcoming elections.

In these troubled political times, the DRC must seek to ensure inclusiveness and fairness in the electoral process to ensure free and fair elections. Opposition groups such as Moïse Katumbi’s “Sacred Union” and Martin Fayulu’s “Lamuka” have also expressed their desire to see free and fair elections.

It is therefore crucial that the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) maintains its commitment to guarantee inclusiveness and transparency in the electoral process to ensure the credibility of the electoral results and avoid any post-electoral crisis.
