“SICOMINES in the DRC: how Sino-Congolese collaboration improves the lives of local communities”

Sino-Congolese cooperation for the benefit of the respective peoples of the two countries is at the heart of the news. La Sino-Congolaise des Mines (SICOMINES), one of the pillars of this collaboration, is resolutely committed to respecting its commitments in terms of social responsibility in the DRC. The public interest projects designed by SICOMINES for the local communities affected by its activities are considerably changing the lives of the inhabitants, as evidenced by the supply of drinking water provided by modern boreholes in several villages.

In addition to the supply of drinking water, the mining house has launched around twenty projects with a direct and visible impact in the fields of agriculture, education, health, roads and sports facilities. Already completed or in progress, these projects will change the face of the Lualaba region, in particular the territories of Kapata, Mutaka, Biwaya, Mapendo and Yenge.

In less than two years since the signing of the specifications with the local communities, SICOMINES has managed to comply with the laws in force in the DRC, in particular the revised mining code of 2018, and to ensure common development for all and to assume its social responsibility. This fine example of social responsibility in the DRC is in perfect harmony with the recommendations of the Chinese government vis-à-vis all Chinese companies established in the DRC.

Despite the political difficulties and the persistent social tensions in the DRC, this Sino-Congolese cooperation is likely to open up many prospects in the future. It is already changing the lives of thousands of Congolese through concrete projects that promote sustainable and inclusive development.
