Kinshasa in crisis: Tensions between the governor and his deputy reach their climax

Kinshasa: The crisis between the governor and his deputy intensifies

The political situation in Kinshasa continues to deteriorate, as the crisis between the governor, Gentiny Ngobila, and his deputy, Gérard Mulumba, escalates. In a recent note published by the entourage of Gérard Mulumba, several accusations are made against the head of the provincial executive.

Among the grievances listed, Gentiny Ngobila is accused of being behind the non-payment of salaries of ministers and members of their cabinets for 26 months. In addition, 435 police officers assigned to City Hall would also not receive any payment. This situation jeopardizes the proper functioning of city services.

The lack of health coverage for the administrative officers of the town hall is also denounced. According to the vice-governor’s entourage, no medical agreement has been put in place, which means that treatment is neither covered nor reimbursed.

The management of the city’s resources is also criticized. Gentiny Ngobila is accused of making arbitrary decisions and operating according to criteria of affinity and camaraderie, to the detriment of efficiency and respect for procedures.

In addition, the city of Kinshasa would face serious financial problems. Some leases would have been terminated and city services would be in the process of eviction. The population sees no prospect of improvement and the governor only communicates on news items, ignoring the urgent problems facing the city.

It is time for the authorities to take quick action to resolve this crisis and ensure the smooth functioning of the city of Kinshasa. The inhabitants expect concrete actions and an improvement in their quality of life. Political stability and good management of resources are essential issues for the future of the Congolese capital.
