Road safety is a major concern worldwide, and the provincial government of Kongo Central is no exception. In order to reduce the number of accidents on the Kinshasa-Matadi section of National Road No. 1, eighteen measures have been taken recently.
The first measure is to submit all vehicles circulating in the province to a technical control. This ensures vehicles are in good working order and reduces the risk of accidents related to mechanical failures. In addition, tinted and opaque windows are prohibited for public transport vehicles, improving visibility and passenger safety.
It is also forbidden to transport goods on the roof and inside the containers, as well as to transport passengers inside. These unsafe practices can compromise vehicle stability and increase the risk of accidents. In addition, prolonged parking in large cities without a valid reason is now prohibited, in order to guarantee traffic flow.
The following measure aims to combat drink-driving. Drivers must refrain from drinking before driving and risk severe penalties if they violate this rule. In addition, the use of additional headlights, such as LED projectors, is prohibited, in order to avoid dazzling other drivers and disturbing visibility.
To ensure the safety of the transport of goods, it is mandatory to cover coals and other toxic products with a tarpaulin, and to respect environmental standards. In addition, drivers must be provided with a safety triangle or a light signal in the event of a breakdown or poor parking, and a fire extinguisher to put out any fires.
Other measures aim to ensure that drivers are in possession of all necessary documents, such as insurance, transport authorizations, etc. Passengers must also observe safety rules, such as not traveling with two people in the front passenger seat or getting into the trunk of a car. Motorcyclists must wear their helmets and it is forbidden to transport pregnant women and babies on board a motorcycle.
These measures taken by the provincial government of Kongo Central bear witness to the importance attached to road safety. They aim to make drivers and passengers aware of safety rules and to reduce the risk of accidents
