Democratic progress in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to be talked about. Actors of civil society, citizens’ associations, political parties and independent personalities of the country recently launched a political platform called “Alternative Pour un Congo Nouveau” (ACN).
This initiative was born from the observation that sixty years after its independence, the collective well-being of the Congolese people is still not assured. The wealth of the country is numerous and yet the living conditions of most citizens are not improving. Faced with this situation, the ACN proposes an alternative political offer, established with the citizens, in order to solve the real problems they have to face.
The mobilization of civil society, citizen movements and political organizations in the creation of this political platform proves the awareness of the Congolese people as to the need to put an end to the current system of governance, based on particular and partisan interests, corruption, embezzlement of public funds, clientelism, non-respect of the constitution, tribalism, regionalism and violence.
The ACN is committed to responsible management of the country’s institutions by substituting collective well-being for partisan interests, by qualitatively renewing the Congolese political class by including young people and women, by restoring the dignity of Congolese men and women by transforming potential into wealth and distributing it fairly to all Congolese.
This political platform is a response to the current political bankruptcy which has only resulted in an uncertain future for Congolese citizens. It will make it possible to constitute the country’s third political path, a credible alternative for prosperity and the consolidation of democracy in the DRC.
Initiatives of this kind are so much hope for the DRC and will surely allow citizens to take control of their destiny. Thus, the actors of the Congolese political scene must commit themselves more to meet the challenges and guarantee the interest of the people above all.
